Philippine Stamps and Topical Stamp Collecting, 2nd Edition

     During the first 20 years of the Republic period (from 1946 to present day), very few topical stamps were issued. However, during the 1960’s, beautiful sets of topical stamps were released such as the orchids set of 1962, the Christmas set of 1967 and the butterflies set of 1969. During the 1970’s, more topical stamps issues were released and a lot of them had to do with the topic, "flora and fauna." By the 1990’s, the issuance of "flora and fauna" stamps have become regular; however, since 2005 until the present time, there was a flood of issues on this topic.

 

     I have updated my list of flora and fauna on Philippine stamps. It is given below. As you look at it, you will notice that birds and marine life issues are quite few. I did not include most of them, intentionally, since these issues have separate lists. You will notice, too, that the list is too broad. I agree. My purpose of making this list is to provide readers and collectors some "more specific topics" that they can deal with. For example, the reader/collector may decide to collect butterflies only and make a list of butterflies on Philippine stamps. There are more such specific topics in the list. And a few of the "more specific topics," in my opinion, are worth exploring.
